"pithos" virus is back!

French scientists have been able to revive the giant harmless virus which was buried at a depth of approximately 30 meters of ice in Siberia, where the temperature reaches 14 degrees below zero. This work was published on March 3 in the "Proceedings of scientific journals of the National Academy of Sciences" . The virus, which is called "pithos" lived 30,000 years ago with mammoths and Neanderthals human. This virus has 500 genes, while cold gene influenza virus has only eight genes. It's such a huge virus compared to the normal virus and can be seen using standard light microscopy.

This research proved that the virus can stay in cold places reserved for many years, which raises many questions about the return of many of the viruses after the ice melts due to global warming.
